A person can expect to spend between $12,000 and $14,000 to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate. On average it takes about 5 months and about 50 hours of flying. Check out our prices here.
FAA Minimum Requirements for a Private Pilot Certificate
- 40 total hours of flying
- 20 hours with flight instructor
- 3 hours night flying
- 10 takeoffs and landings at night
- One cross country flight over 100 nautical miles
- 3 hours instrument flying
- 3 hours preparation for check ride
- 10 hours solo
- 5 hours solo cross country
- One solo cross country flight over 150 nautical miles
- 3 solo takeoff and landings at an airport with a tower
- 10 hours additional
